About Elizabeth

I am Elizabeth Scott-Winkler, a dedicated kindergarten teacher at Discovery Elementary in Sammamish, Washington, with a strong educational foundation. I have been a teacher for the last 22 years. I earned my degrees from City University and Central Washington University, and I have extensive experience staying current with educational trends, through a multitude of trainings. I believe in creating engaging and nurturing learning environments that foster early childhood development. My commitment to education goes beyond traditional classroom methodologies, as I recognize that humans are lifelong learners. I instill the power of education and emphasize that learning is a lifelong commitment, a journey we continue throughout our lives.

For the past year and a half, I have been working towards becoming a qualified Orton-Gillingham Certified Member. A certified member demonstrates the knowledge and expertise in a structured, multisensory approach to teaching reading, writing, and spelling. The Orton-Gillingham approach is a research-based, evidence-backed instructional method designed to support students with dyslexia and other reading difficulties. It emphasizes individualized, sequential, phonics-based learning, helping students develop essential literacy skills through a combination of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic-tactile techniques.

This approach allows me to tailor my instruction to meet the diverse needs of my students, ensuring that every child, regardless of their learning style, has the opportunity to build strong foundational literacy skills. My dedication to incorporating proven methodologies, particularly in the field of early childhood literacy, makes me a valuable asset to the students I work with. I am a strong advocate for early childhood literacy and successful learning.

Beyond my professional life, I am a devoted wife and mother. I am married and have three children—one has graduated, while the others are still navigating their school years in Sammamish. My personal experience as a parent, navigating the educational journey with my children, gives me a unique perspective and a deep understanding of the challenges and joys of education. It reinforces my deep commitment to fostering a love of learning in my children and my students.
